Cross Magazine

Cross is an intimate cultural quarterly that takes a particularly defeatist though no less relenting look at our surroundings. Milan, Italy.

View:
Issue 1 - you can Cross me out
Issue 2 - our stars are Crossed - A slavic take on romanticism
Issue 3 - we are Cross with the present - The estate issue

Description: Art direction and design of magazine's identity.
The ethos of the magazine is one marked by excess, not in strictly aesthetic terms but as a conceptual platform as well. The art direction uses a very wide variety of fonts-from default couriers and times new roman to free ware fonts most designers shy away from. The titles of articles are treated as importantly as the content itself, conceived intentionally to be wordy, as a redemption of text in contemporary media. Only the sections of the magazine (ART/FASHION/etc.) outdo the titles in their length. The art direction emphasizes this further with display fonts and an imploding diversity tailored specifically for each issue.
Each of Cross' covers features an interview with a cinema star. Instead of placing the content of the interview within the pages of the magazine, the interview is hidden within a quadrifold cover, slowly revealing itself upon reading. Similarly, the editorial begins on the actual cover, and approaches completion within the magazine.
